![]() ![]() Everyone uses the same user to authenticate with the GNS instance and everyone can see and edit all the projects.ĮVE-NG does have a user management system. User managementĪs already mentioned in the previous part, GNS3 does not have a user management system. You can create a topology for your students on which they can work all by themselves. The fact that everyone has their own personal pod does have one advantage though: it is a handy feature for schools. If you login with a user that is already used by someone else, they get logged out of their session. You might think that you can use the same user for everyone, but EVE-NG does not allow this. You can share the same topology with people, but the configuration and state of that topology is stored inside the personal pod. Everyone has their own user and and virtual machines are run inside a personal ‘pod’. This is due to the fact that EVE-NG has a user management system. Not even in the pro version of the software. Unfortunately, EVE-NG does not have this feature. Since everyone uses the same user to connect to GNS3 (there is no user management), everyone can see each others changes and you can even connect to the same console sessions and see what the other person is doing in real-time. Just connect your GNS3 client to the server and open the project you want to work on with other people. In GNS3 it is quite is to work on one project with multiple people. The first important difference between the two is the ability to work on a project together. As a result our result might be a little biased, but by doing so we compare two options that are both free. NOTE: We will be comparing GNS3 to the Community Edition of EVE-NG. In this article we will be focussing on those differences, so that you can make an educated choice which of the two you prefer. However there are some differences between the two that might impact your choice. The main features of GNS3 and EVE-NG are more or less the same: both allow you to create virtual network environments using virtual hardware form different vendors. ![]()
